Café Couple Roles – Kitchen + Front of House

We’re inviting Expressions of Interest from a couple looking for a stable, long-term café role on Lord Howe Island, combining Kitchen and Front of House positions, with shared accommodation provided.
This is a well-structured, non-chaotic operation designed for people who value balance, reliability, and living somewhere unique.
The roles are available for an immediate start.
The roles
We are looking for a couple who can fill two complementary roles:
1. Kitchen role
Running daily breakfast and lunch service (simple, consistent, quality menu)
Prep, service, and clean-down
One person per shift in the kitchen
No late nights
2. Front of House role
Customer service, order taking, preparing smoothies & soft serve
Supporting barista during busy periods
Calm, friendly presence
Both roles are:
Open → 2-3pm only
Same five days each week
The roster & lifestyle
Café operates 5 days
You will work 5 days each, with 2 consecutive days off together
Sunday & Mondays off (ideal for island exploring, rest, or travel)
Predictable schedule, no last-minute chaos
The business is intentionally over-staffed to avoid burnout and maximise forward progression.
This is not a “hold it together with duct tape” café.
Accommodation
Private room shared as a couple
Share house with the head barista
Rent discussed openly and fairly
Cafe is on the same property
Owner, James, lives separately but also on the same property
Owner’s parents live next door, ie. no late night parties
What we’re looking for
A couple comfortable working together
At least one person with kitchen experience, one with front of house.
Friendly, reliable, calm under pressure
Respectful of shared living arrangements
Ideally looking for 6+ months, multiple seasons welcome
Island or remote work experience is a bonus, but not required.

Important
Sadly due to very limited staff accomodation, if one person from the couple was to leave, the other would be required to leave within two weeks. It is a couple-only role.
